Pope John Paul II leads the Church into the third millennium.
Deep Dive
The Great Jubilee was a massive celebration marking the 2,000th anniversary of the birth of Jesus Christ. Pope St. John Paul II saw this as a profound moment of grace and a necessary purification of memory for the Church. He led the Church in public acts of repentance for past sins committed by Catholics. Millions of pilgrims traveled to Rome to pass through the Holy Doors. The Pope's apostolic letter, Novo Millennio Ineunte, urged the Church to 'Duc in altum' (Put out into the deep), focusing on holiness, prayer, and the New Evangelization in the third millennium.
