What is it?
Also called Confession or Reconciliation, this sacrament restores the relationship between the sinner and God broken by grave sin. Through sincere contrition, confession of sins, and the priest's absolution, the penitent receives forgiveness and peace.
Theological Meaning
Christ gave His Apostles the power to forgive sins (John 20:22-23), a power passed through apostolic succession to priests today. The sacrament heals the soul wounded by sin, reconciles with God and the Church, and grants spiritual peace.
