Biography
Born Helena Kowalska to a poor Polish peasant family, she had only three years of basic education. She joined the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy in Warsaw. Despite performing menial tasks like cooking and gardening, she experienced profound mystical graces. Jesus appeared to her numerous times, tasking her with spreading the devotion to the Divine Mercy. He instructed her to have an image painted with the signature 'Jesus, I trust in You,' and requested the establishment of the Feast of Divine Mercy on the Sunday after Easter. She recorded her visions and spiritual journey in her Diary, which became a global spiritual classic. She died of tuberculosis at age 33. She was the first saint canonized in the 21st century.
