Biography
Saint Joseph was the husband of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the legal father of Jesus Christ. A carpenter from Nazareth, he was of the royal lineage of King David. The Gospels describe him as a 'just man.' When he discovered Mary was pregnant before they lived together, he planned to divorce her quietly to spare her public disgrace, but an angel appeared to him in a dream revealing that the child was conceived by the Holy Spirit. He protected the Holy Family, fleeing to Egypt to save the infant Jesus from Herod's massacre. Joseph is venerated as the patron of the Universal Church, workers, and a happy death, as tradition holds he died in the arms of Jesus and Mary.
