Biography

Born Francesco Forgione in Pietrelcina, Italy, he joined the Capuchin Franciscans at age 15. In 1918, while praying before a crucifix in San Giovanni Rotondo, he received the visible stigmata—the wounds of Christ—which bled for 50 years until his death. Padre Pio became renowned as an extraordinary confessor, spending up to 16 hours a day in the confessional, often reading the souls of penitents and reminding them of unconfessed sins. He established a hospital, the 'Home for the Relief of Suffering,' which became one of the most efficient hospitals in Europe. Despite enduring Vatican investigations and intense physical suffering, he remained deeply obedient to the Church.

Miracles & Signs
