First Reading
Jeremiah 13:1-5Yahweh said to me, “Go, and buy yourself a linen belt, and put it on your waist, and don’t put it in water.”
So I bought a belt according to Yahweh’s word, and put it on my waist.
Yahweh’s word came to me the second time, saying,
“Take the belt that you have bought, which is on your waist, and arise, go to the Euphrates, and hide it there in a cleft of the rock.”
So I went, and hid it by the Euphrates, as Yahweh commanded me.

Responsorial Psalm
Psalm 45:1-3Response: “The Lord is my shepherd, there is nothing I shall want.”
My heart overflows with a noble theme.
I recite my verses for the king.
My tongue is like the pen of a skillful writer.
You are the most excellent of the sons of men.
Grace has anointed your lips,
therefore God has blessed you forever.
Strap your sword on your thigh, mighty one:
your splendor and your majesty.

Gospel
John 12:1-8Then six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, who had been dead, whom he raised from the dead.
So they made him a supper there. Martha served, but Lazarus was one of those who sat at the table with him.
Mary, therefore, took a pound of ointment of pure nard, very precious, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance of the ointment.
Then Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, one of his disciples, who would betray him, said,
“Why wasn’t this ointment sold for three hundred denarii, and given to the poor?”
Now he said this, not because he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief, and having the money box, used to steal what was put into it.
But Jesus said,
“Leave her alone. She has kept this for the day of my burial.
For you always have the poor with you, but you don’t always have me.”
